Course Information
This qualification allows learners to develop basic knowledge and understanding of the needs of young children, aged from birth to five years, based on a variety of settings. It also helps learners understand their role in supporting child development. The qualification covers healthy eating for children, safe learning environments for young children, health and safety requirements, the importance of keeping all children safe from harm and designing a range of play activities for young children aimed at their age and stage of development. The qualification is designed for learners aged pre-16 and above who would like to understand the main issues concerning childcare learning and development. To achieve the Level 1 Award in Working with Children, learners must achieve five mandatory units:

• Unit 01 Encouraging children to eat healthily
• Unit 02 Create a safe environment for young children
• Unit 03 Working in a team
• Unit 04 Contribute to equality of opportunity in support of young child development
• Unit 05 Provide a range of appropriate play activities for young children.

Entry Requirement
There are no specific requirements but applicants must have at least a grade 3 in English.

Course Delivery
Level 1 Award in Working with Children is assessed internally. To achieve this Level 1 Award, learners must successfully demonstrate their knowledge of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the five mandatory units. Grades are not awarded.

• Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce
• Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People’s Settings
• Intermediate Apprenticeship for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.
