Course Information
This qualification will provide the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools. It includes learning about children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare, and communication. The Level 3 Certificate is suitable for those working in unsupervised roles that support pupils’ learning. Students require 32 credits to gain a certificate. The mandatory units are:

• Unit 01 Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults
• Unit 02 Schools as Organisations
• Unit 03 Support Learning Activities
• Unit 04 Promote Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour
• Unit 05 Develop Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults
• Unit 06 Promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Work with Children and Young People
• Unit 07 Support Assessment for Learning
• Unit 08 Understand Child and Young Person Development
• Unit 09 Understand How to Safeguard the Well-Being of Children and Young People
• Unit 10 Support Children and Young People’s Health and Safety
• Unit 11 Engage in Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings

Entry Requirement
Students should be at least 16 years old. We do not set any other entry requirements but colleges or training providers may have their own guidelines.

Course Delivery
Students will be assessed by a tutor or assessor using multiple methods. These could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task. Learners can usually complete the course in a year. Students taking the course will need to work or volunteer in a school environment. They will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
