Course Information
This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s settings including, early years and social care. It is also a must-have for all those undertaking the Level 2 Children and Young People’s Apprenticeship outside of the early years setting. This course is suitable for anyone who wants to work or has just started to work in the children and young people’s workforce. Optional units are required to reach the minimum qualification credit of 35. To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (England), learners are required to complete eleven mandatory units:

• Unit 01 Introduction to Communication in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
• Unit 02 Introduction to Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
• Unit 03 Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
• Unit 04 Child and Young Person Development
• Unit 05 Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People
• Unit 06 Maintain and Support Relationships with Children and Young People
• Unit 07 Support Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour
• Unit 08 Contribute to the Support of Child and Young Person Development
• Unit 09 Contribute to Children and Young People’s Health and Safety
• Unit 10 Contribute to the Support of Positive Environments for Children and Young People
• Unit 11 Understand Partnership Working in Services for Children and Young People

Entry Requirement
Students should be at least 16. There are no specific entry requirements but, learners must have at least a grade 3 in English.

Course Delivery
The course could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task. Students can complete the course in a year or less. The student will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
